Weekly TV Roundup #11

I took a break from Weekly TV Roundup last week due to personal reasons. My life has felt like pure chaos the past two-three weeks, between a number of things, the biggest being that I was hired as an elementary school counselor, and then two days later told that someone on a surplus list needed to be placed and that job would no longer be mine. Huge disappointment. So I'm plugging away with more job applications, more interviews, and oh yeah, our school year begins next Thursday - which means if/when I get hired, it will be crunch time and the next week and a half will fly by and be more chaos. But if I get hired, I will embrace the chaos that comes with it and be more than happy to start my career. Thanks for listening to my rant...now on to the link up.

Pretty Little Liars

 "Crash and Burn Girl"
Hanna's mom is in jail -  it's not looking good for her - and the girls are holed up in her house. Caleb and Toby are holed up in (?) Toby's loft, doing detective work with a board all about A. I really love Caleb and Toby as a team and the fact that they are in it for their ladies. I feel like Paige would totally join their team if they invited her to do so. The guy at the flight center was shady from the beginning. I knew he was hiding something. I wish they would have caught him and held him hostage to get some information out of him. The "babe" he was talking to has to be red coat! The principal accuses Mike of bashing "jerk face's" car. I'm referring to him as jerk face because, well, that's what I think of guys who spread rumors like that boy was doing. It kills me that Ezra is still coming to Aria's rescue. Can't they just be together???? I'm really curious to know what her letter to him says! I hope we find out. Emily steals the key to Wilden's apartment and of course the liars have to check it out. They find a package from A and we are led to believe Wilden was also being stalked by A. I say "led to believe" because unless there is solid proof in this show, everyone and everything raises my suspicion. I'm worried that even though the liars were wearing gloves at Wilden's place they accidentally left something behind that the police will find. Just as bad, or even worse, now Emily's mom is in trouble at work because the key is missing. Ugh. Way to go, Em! Why did we not find out who was driving the car that came crashing through the front of Emily's house? Why didn't she, or her mom, look inside to see who the driver was? Wouldn't she suspect it's A-related? The preview for next week (today) was very exciting and I hope they reveal who was driving the car. I have a feeling Hanna is going to confess to murdering Wilden to try to get her mom out of jail.
Thoughts?

Dexter

Deb's downward spiral is just growing worse and worse at this point. Drinking and driving is never a good combo and especially not when you run into a parking meter and pass out in your car. I'm not surprised she called Joey while she was in a bind. I knew she wouldn't call Dexter. Speaking of Dexter, he's still on the hunt for Vogel's former patient, the "brain surgeon." Dr. Vogel is not cool with his "love" for Deb and she's getting more deliveries from the "brain surgeon" - this time a his and hers set of brain parts. Dexter's quest for the brain surgeon leads him to the mall, to a sporting goods salesman. This dude is definitely creepy and as soon as they started a conversation, I knew he was headed for a chopped up ending. He confirms his suspicions about the guy when he breaks into his house and finds body parts and organs in the kitchen. Ewwwwwww.

Dexter is reaching out to Deb and tries to remind her that deep down she is a good-hearted individual. His efforts don't work out so well because it appears the next day that Deb is ready to confess to everything. And she does. She liquors herself up and walks right into Miami Metro and tells Joey that she killed LaGuerta. He locks her up in a room and calls Dexter to give him a heads up on coming to collect his sister. Dexter brings Dr. Vogel along to give her "expert opinion." Deb flips when Dexter shows up and is already in the process of writing out her confession. Dex drugs her and takes her, and her confession, home. I love the way it all went down. Joey thinks Deb is speaking metaphorically when blaming herself for LaGuerta's death and she gives just enough information for him to not see the real truth. I'm glad she didn't confess. I don't think she will end up going to jail for this before the season is over. But then again, she is really struggling right now. I can't see Dex killing her, but maybe Dr. Vogel will step in. She strongly suggests it when she talks about establishing the code for Dexter with Harry so many years before. FINALLY the episode ends with a plastic wrap kill scene. Now I can enjoy the rest of the episodes this season without desperately waiting for that. I know, I'm strange like that.

The Bachelorette

Usually I watch this show faithfully, every week, but I have been slacking this season. I like Desiree but she wasn't my first choice. I am waiting for the day that Kacie B. is the Bachelorette. I have seen bits and pieces of episodes up until now. I kinda like being out of the loop and not checking Reality Steve like I have done in the past too. Now I can try to figure out who she picks in the end and make a fun game out of it.

I love the hometown dates because I feel like if it's not serious at this point, nothing is going to change after the dates, but there is a much clearer idea about who is moving forward in their relationships and who isn't. First up was Zak and I feel like she really hit it off with his family. I love that they sang to her. What a sweet gesture..and how about him giving her that ring?!

Next was her date with Drew. She went with him to pick up his sister who has mental handicaps and bring her to his parents' house. I really like how genuine Desiree is and she seemed to fit in with Drew's family. I just don't see the connection between them as much as I do with the other guys.

Desiree went to Chris' hometown next and I think she fit in well with his family but her interaction with his mom was a bit strange. Chris chatted with his mom and she started crying, which he took as tears of joy, but I saw them as tears of uncertainty. I think she sees how happy he is with Desiree but doesn't want her son to get hurt.

The final hometown date was with Brooks. I see how strong her connection is with him and he really cares for her. As of now, he is my top pick. I see her having a future with him and I think both of them do as well. Zak goes home in the end and Des is obviously upset about this, as is he. I think next to go home is Drew.

Funday Monday!

Happy Monday!
This week I am co-hosting Funday Monday with Carly at Lipgloss and Crayons and Molly at Still Being Molly. I love this link up so much because you can literally write about anything! I love reading what everyone has to say about different topics.
I have had this summer off from work and school. It has been two months since graduation and unfortunately I'm still looking for a job. School counseling jobs are hard to come by. I met with the principal of a local elementary school at the end of March and really thought I would end up being hired there. In my district, new jobs are posted each Monday. I have been checking, and checking, and checking. Nothing was showing up. I called the school last week to find out that the principal had decided not to hire a school counselor for the upcoming school year.
I have been feeling disheartened and frustrated lately. I worked my butt off in my graduate program and have nothing to show for it yet. It has been discouraging. I am still optimistic though and am keeping my options open. I have searched for jobs in mental health agencies, at the local university level, and have decided to begin studying for the K-6 elementary education exam - so I can possibly start out as a teacher.
Positive thoughts are much appreciated as I continue through this struggle to begin my career as a school counselor. Not just for myself, but for my fellow classmates who have just graduated (there were about 12 of us) and are still on the hunt for jobs as well.

Pretty Little Liars
aired 7/1/2013
I want to say this show couldn't get any more twisted and confusing if it tried, but every week I am proved wrong by what the Liars get themselves into and what A comes up with. The girls are now being watched by the new detective in town and his partner.
Hanna runs into them at the bank when she goes to see her mom and they are emptying out Wilden's vault. Caleb is always around to save the day when Hanna gets stuck talking to the female detective. He also helps her cover for her mom when the detectives show up on their front door step. I think if Hanna doesn't stop trying to stick her nose all up in this business, she's going to get herself or her mother into some trouble. She confronts her mom about being in Rosewood the night Wilden was killed.

Emily's dad returns to town and her parents are under investigation. It doesn't help that she takes off running in the middle of the night screaming at them and the cops show up. I have a bad feeling that her parents are going to end up getting arrested, or Emily will be removed from the home, something along those lines.
Spencer is still all about helping Toby. She finds the doctor his mother saw in Radley isn't far from Rosewood and he sets off to find him and try to find out what went down. Toby locates him and they have a nice, long chat about his mother. At the end of the conversation, the doctor tells Toby to tell his mother he said hello. So, the guy has lost it clearly. But he says something interesting about the blonde girl coming to visit her. Dun, dun, dun.... Spencer spills to her mom and Melissa that she's been rejected from UPenn. They're not okay with that, of course.
Aria has started seeing her martial arts instructor, Jake. They run into Malcolm while walking through town and he asks why Aria never comes over anymore. Jake gets this confused look on his face and Aria ends up telling him about what happened between her and Ezra.
The big event of the episode: Spencer and Aria set up Melissa and then follow her to the mask shop, where Melissa is seen dragging out a bag so large and heavy that Aria questions whether a body could fit into or not. It doesn't contain a body but it is full of Ali masks and she destroys every single one of them. Spencer confronts her about Wilden's death and I'm pretty sure Melissa is guilty.
In the end, the girls get a text letting them know that Melissa isn't part of the A team. I find it odd that Mona was MIA this episode. Only makes me wonder what she is up to. I'm interested to see what happens between Aria and Jake. Is Ezra really out of the picture?
Dexter
aired 7/7/2013
I also watched Dexter (only one time through) and have a little to comment on. Dr. Vogel is already an interesting character. As I kind of guessed at last week, Harry had talked to her about Dexter. I really liked the videos of Harry consulting her. I feel it gave an interesting take on Dexter's evolution and the early stages of his serial killer side. Deb is going on a killing spree herself and can't even remember that she killed El Sapo. Time to lay off the drugs and drink, woman. I'm curious to see what happens with Jamie and Quinn. I hope they stick together and Quinn's protectiveness over Deb doesn't get in the way of their relationship. Is it wrong that next week I'm hoping for Dexter to kill someone? I know he killed Briggs last week but I'm waiting for the first plastic wrap kill of the season still.

Dexter
Season 8 premiere - A Beautiful Day

The "recap" of seasons 1-7 that played before the episode started was amazing. I loved hearing all of the actors' points of view of the show. I am not looking forward to this series ending.
6 months have passed since Deb killed Captain LaGuerta. Everyone is present for a dedication of a bench to her except for Deb, who is "out of town," which is apparently code for getting high and hooking up with a guy in a hotel...at least that's what we are led to believe until Dexter goes to her house and finds an overflowing mailbox, and then heads to her supposed new employer, who hasn't heard from her in weeks.  He tracks her down in Fort Lauderdale and she wants nothing to do with him.
Miami Metro has a visitor - a neuropsychologist who is there to help with a new case. She suspects a serial killer is involved in a recent murder. She gets 1-on-1 with Dexter and starts asking him about the Bay Harbor Butcher. At this point, I'm already thinking she is up to no good for Dexter's well-being. She's eyeing him in the meeting every time she talks about psychopaths and serial killers.
It wouldn't be a season premiere without Dexter murdering someone. He comes through just before the episode is over by stabbing Deb's "boy toy" who she has been supposed to bring in to her employer. Deb tells him to leave and Dexter returns to his car to find the back passenger door open and Harrison MIA. Leave it to Dexter to run and pick up his kid with blood all over his hands.
The episode ends with Dr. Vogel approaching Dexter as he sits on LaGuerta's bench. She hands over some child-like drawings with Dexter's name on them. He runs up and grabs her and slams her into a wall. She tells him "you can't kill me." He asks "why not?" and she responds..."I don't fit Harry's code."
What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did Harry know this woman? Did he tell her about Dexter? Is she going to kill him in the end? Or is Deb?
All I know is Deb is headed in a straight up downward spiral. If she doesn't kill herself intentionally, something bad is going to happen. I'm thinking overdose, or getting mixed up in the wrong kind of business and getting herself killed.
And what about the season preview?! ajakdjfoaindnfd W-O-W
Until next time!
